Bayamón is in the northern part of the Island, about 12 miles from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

On the North with the municipalities of Toa Baja, Cataño and Guaynabo; on the South with the municipalities of Comerío and Aguas Buenas; on the East with the municipality of Guaynabo and on the West with the municipalities of Toa Alta and Naranjito.

  Size:
44 square miles (144 kilometers)

  Climate:
Tropical with an average annual temperature of 82º F. (28º C.) and constant easterly trade winds.

 Economy:
Bayamón is the most progressive city of Puerto Rico. It is one of the major economic centers, from the industrial and commercial point of view. Bayamón features various metallurgic industries, chemical, electrical and textiles products manufacturing and food production. Bayamón is an important banking, finance and insurance activities center. Manufactured goods and high-technology equipment are also produced and exported. Employment in government service, business and tourism are also featured. The "Parque de las Ciencias" (picture above) is one of its mayor attractions for tourists featuring the panoramic elevator that takes you to the top of "El Mogote" hill from were you have a 360 degree view of the whole City as well as a view of the Old San Juan Bay.

 History:
It is believed that Bayamón was first settled by an indigenous group led by "Cacique Majagua". Others sustain that there was another indigenous leader called Bayamón from which the City got his name, but there is no proof to sustain this theory. In the year 1510, Juan Ponce De León, Governor of Puerto Rico (San Juan Bautista), sold Majagua's land in public auction. In 1548 Gregorio Santa Olaya, an spanish entrepreneur established the first sugar mill settlement of Bayamón. In the year of 1774 Bishop Fray Manuel Jiménez Pérez designated Bayamón parish an independence parish in the place known as "Altos del Embarcadero". In the year of 1791 the City was built.

 Festivities:
Bayamón celebrates the Holly Cross Festivities, in honor of its patron (Fiestas Patronales) on or about the 3rd day of May, the Holly Cross day; a Handicraft Fair in October and the "Chicharón" Festival
